Ballad movie-Japan and Ballad the song

For the weekend of Sept 12-13, Ballad was the #3 movie on the charts in Japan. Ballad seems to be an epic drama of feudal Japan with ties to modernish events?? I’m totally guessing here due to the boy who has a normal bedroom and bicycle and riding around in car in a couple of scenes of this movie.

But also as important is the theme song which is sung by the lovely Alan.

Alan is of chinese/tibetan descent and is quite popular in Japan. In fact, she sings in Manadarin chinese, tibetan and in Japanese.
