This weekend I took my son to Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC for the first time. My son loves racing of any type, so it was cool to see a bunch of different races on Saturday night. What we didn’t expect to see was an awesome stock car race… and the winner was #22 one Michael McGuire.
Michael McGuire is 13 years old. Maybe 14. But from what his Grandfather told me (sitting in the stands) that his grandson was 13. I gotta say I was completely awed. From what I understand, there is no age restriction on racing in closed race tracks, so the boy is allowed to pursue his passion. Well after this weekend’s race, this is Michael’s 4th win of the year and he has extended his points total in the limited Sportsman Division.
Could Michael be the future of Nascar?? Let’s hope he continues to grow and learn and maybe in 5 years he could be Charlotte bound.
