Fresh Beat Band- Premiere Review

freshbeatSo the Fresh Beat Band debuted 2 episodes yesterday on Nickelodeon. Because new episodes don’t start until 12 Noon, it is hard to understand Nickelodeon’s target audience. Who is actually at home to watch it?

I DVR’d it for my son who was in preschool and he and I were able to watch both episodes during dinner last night. It is actually a fun little show that my son seemed to adore. It didn’t bother him in the least seeing characters break into song and dance. So that’s great! He’s 3 1/2 years old.

Which gets me to Nickelodeon’s target audience… my son is a toddler. If this show is geared toward toddlers, it should be shown in the morning not at noon during lunch or naptime.   I can also see young girls age 4-9 liking the dancing and singing in the show as well. That age group is probably in school as well and not at home to watch.  So what is Nickelodeon thinking? Obviously not very hard about their demographics..

Anyway back to the review..  The show is basically about the Fresh Beat Band, who seem to live together in a house (yet call each other on cell phones because knocking on their room door is too hard to do???). They go to music class everyday and when they aren’t in school they perform live in the downtown street.

There are neat dances that girls will love to learn.. lots of moving around that my son likes to try to jump around too. He likes the music and the songs are poppy and fun enough.

Kiki sounds like Christina Agulaira and has a great voice and plays guitar. Twist is the white boy rapper and it pretty darn good in a Marky Mark kinda way (the only problem is his beat box skills are atrocious). Shout is a very Wayne Brady-esque singer but also maintains that charm too.  He plays keyboard. Marina is the red head who plays drums and sings nice as well.

I’m sure I will see a lot more of the Fresh Beat Band as my son immediately fell in love with them.

My grade A-   my son would give them an A+
